Finishing Kiss Me Kate

The Old VicWell, what can I say! We have finally come to the end of an era, and the start of a new one! My new website!!!!! Yay, I hear you all say.(crickets). So I thought I’d kick things off with a new ‘blog’ section of said website and, how better to do that than with a few words about the closing of “Kiss Me Kate” @The Old Vic. www.oldvictheatre.com

Starting rehearsals in May 2012 at the lovely Jerwood Space to Chichester, and our final resting place here at the Vic. It’s been a hell of a ride, and I have to say I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. There was a time when I didn’t think I could do it, having kind of hung up the “old dance” shoes. Although if there was anybody who was going to get me to dust them off, it was Stephen Mear and Sir Trevor (the Trev) Nunn.

It was also a joy to work with some old faces and friends: Clive Rowe, David Burt, Wendy Mae Brown, Hannah Waddingham, Gareth Valentine and Samuel J Holmes to name but a few. I also had the pleasure of making new friends with cast members whom I had yet to work with.

A great time was had by all!. Although I’m held together with sticky tape at the moment, I wouldn’t change it for the world!!

Dressing RoomSo, the Pennycooke is attempting to write a blog!?.

I am doing this mainly because I have so much going on in my head at anyone given time and, it’s good to vent/release or whatever your name is for it,but also because it’s good to talk!
I don’t know what I’m going to write about, I’m not sure whether it’s going to be every night or every week. But rest assured, it will always be interesting.

So as I leave behind my bfs in Kiss Me Kate, you know who you are, (Walton,Garcia,Holmes and Brewis). I also leave behind our pig sty of a dressing room!(above).

That JumpI’m looking forward to starting ‘Shrek’ rehearsals in Sweden and catch up with the of creatives, Shaun Kerrison, Julian Bigg and Nigel Hook. Not forgetting my lovely assistant Rachel Goodwin, who is beavering away in Sweden with the cast as we speak, and getting them familiar with my off beat choreography.
So as Kiss Me Kate closes I can tell you I will not, miss doing this jump every night(right). But will miss the show 😉 x.
